About the Accounting Specialist

The Accounting Specialist works under the direction of the Accounting Manager performing the essential functions to ensure accuracy of financial statements, accounting records and accounting transactions. This includes, but is not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue, expenses, assets and liabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Enter weekly payments into multiple banking systems/platforms for ACH, domestic and international wire transfers, paypal payments and other payments in various currencies.
  • Have an understanding or ability to learn banking requirements in different countries to know how to submit payments.
  • High attention to detail, especially when submitting payments.
  • Assist with credit card and debit card expenses, receipts, reconciliations and expense reports for various employees with company credit cards. Reconcile individual cards to the master credit card statement and master credit card balance.
  • Post revenue entries for donations such as paypal donations, credit card donations, etc.
  • Ensure revenue is booked into the proper categories.
  • Maintain schedules of various accounting topics such as fixed assets schedule, prepaid expenses schedule, etc. Monthly posting and recording of any transactions and maintenance for these accounts.
  • Prepares schedules, registers and reconciliations of financial information that ties to the GL/TB balances, including accounts such as prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, etc. Identify transactions that are no longer valid, need to be written off, reclassed, etc. and prepare the entry.
  • Investigate transactions for correctness and completeness. Prepare correcting entries when necessary.
  • Create custom reports and use existing reports in the accounting system (Sage Intacct) and other systems (Expensify, Salesforce, etc.) to gather information, perform analysis and review transactions.
  • Investigate banking errors and provides resolutions.
  • Respond to internal and external questions on payments and incoming revenue.
  • Assist with accounts payable process as needed, including syncing expense reports, attaching documents, confirming payments, etc. when needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with program staff and administrative staff.
  • Follow internal processes, procedures, and approvals.
  • Assist with month-end close processes
  • Assist with annual audit, tax Form 990 preparation and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP, external policies and internal policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in Accounting and 3 years of experience in accounting or financial analysis
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting
  • Experience performing reconciliations, registers or schedules that tie to GL/TB balances
  • Experience working with accounting software
  • Demonstrated expertise using Google Suite, Microsoft applications, especially Excel

Desired (but not required) skills and experiences

  • Nonprofit experience preferred, especially working knowledge of financial accounting for nonprofits
  • Experience working with multiple entities in a finance or accounting position
  • Experience working with global staff and/or multiple currencies
  • Detail-oriented
  • Deadline-oriented
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to self-manage and work independently as needed
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills

Compensation: SG8
