Job Description:

This person will have a history of approaching problem solving with curiosity and imagination. We value people with a desire to learn new skills and a mindset that challenging questions are opportunities for insight.

This person will be responsible for guiding the work of all visualization specialists and ensuring that all dashboards and visualizations provide actionable insights that business leaders and public policy leaders can easily understand and use to make effective strategic decisions. Due to the dynamic nature of the team, and this role in particular, we seek entrepreneurial candidates with the ability to effectively manage a team, derive analytical insights from a variety of business contexts, and communicate those insights effectively through a range of creative and intuitive visualizations.

We want to keep pushing the edge of what is possible in viz work. And keep experimenting and iterating around what is effective. Creative and outside-the-box thinking is encouraged, and original ideas are welcomed and supported by the team.

The job requires strong leadership skills, collaborative work, fluency using statistics and visualizations to answer specific questions about datasets and a passion for creating informative visualizations and presentations to communicate results to all levels of the company. Viz managers track issues and implement solutions in a prompt manner. They promote brainstorming amongst the team to create solutions to constraints using their technical expertise and experience, as well as provide expertise for escalated quality problems and anticipate bottlenecks in the development cycle. They define strategies, regularly participate in executive meetings to present their progress, and share project information with other professionals in their organization.

A bachelor’s degree is required. Previous experience in a similar technical position can be helpful especially in the world of data. Additionally, leadership or management experience is key. Viz Managers must also be problem-solvers with excellent leadership skills who can motivate employees to reach all company objectives.
