Job Description

JOB TITLE: Remote Staff Accountant
COMPENSATION: Competitive. Starting at $55,000 based on experience and location.

This is an interesting job, if: You love working in the nitty-gritty daily operations in the accounting and finance departments. You love juggling many clients, different requests and using a variety of systems. You are a trusted accountant to your clients and controller.

You don’t mind ensuring timely completion of tasks and following-through on compliance. This is an ever-changing role with many different clients from every kind of start-up you can imagine.

You love to understand client details and intricacies of areas such as revenue, expenses, payroll and all things balance sheet related. You love digging into complex projects and running with them from start to finish.

You are a detail and quality freak. You go the extra mile to make sure your work and other’s work are done with the highest quality for each and every client.

You don’t get too stressed juggling many balls and tight deadlines. You see these as daily challenges you embrace. You’re not afraid of technology or to learn new things or new ways of doing business.

It’s essential you have the desire, skills, and knowledge to:

Reconciliations:

  • Assisting with adding bank and credit card transactions, categorize in the chart of accounts.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts to statements at month-end using QBO tool.
  • Reconcile Bill.com with QBO tool.
  • Sync Approved & Reimbursed Reports from Expensify to QBO.
  • Process journal entries
  • Record payroll entries from Gusto, Trinet, Rippling, Justworks and other systems
  • Record current month carry-over entry for prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, depreciation/amortization, and interest expense, if applicable.

Reviews and QA Checks:

  • Check the reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Confirm Bill.com, Expensify, Payroll and other system Syncs.
  • Create, post and confirm accruals and prepaids
  • Categorize and post expenses
  • Perform and review revenue recognition processes and posting
  • Perform and review Cost of Goods Sold categorization and posting
  • Perform and review fixed and intangible asset recognition processes and posting
  • Review accounts payable and receivable transactions and aging summaries
  • Pose questions to Client about any balances aged 90+ days overdue.
  •  Perform and review fixed and intangible asset recognition processes and posting
  • Perform and review equity and funding processes and posting
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts using system tools.
  • Sign-off on all supporting schedules.
  • Complete MCP evaluations for other team members.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends as requested
  • Work with respective Controller/Account Manager in forecasting income and expenses
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by maintaining compliance documentation for each client
  • Prepare financial reports monthly for each client for review by respective Controller/Account Manager
  • Work with respective team monthly to close books for each client
  • Maintain records of vendor relations and statuses
  • Stay informed and current with bookkeeping, tax filing, HR standards and other related government regulations
  • Perform ad hoc assignments as requested pertaining to client needs.

Other Administrative Duties

  • Manage submitting, approving and tracking of maintenance projects
  • Monitor billable hours between different clients
  • Organizing documents online in Box
  • Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Skills & Prerequisites

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Concentration in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • 1 to 10+ years of experience
  • Knowledge of accounting theory, principles, and practices
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Strong priority management skills
  • Ability to describe accounting systems and processes in written correspondence and in procedure manual format.
  • Knowledge of research techniques to analyze data and make recommendations.
  • Knowledge of computer information systems to present financial information.
  • Ability to prepare statistical reports and analyze financial reports.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations accurately and quickly.
  • Ability to identify and compute ratios and percentages.
